Description

Our eggs are collected daily and left unwashed. Our flock is comprised of Leghorn (white) and Rhode Island Red (brown) hens. They are fed Purina Layena pellets with Omega-3 and given a daily treat of meal worms.

Unwashed farm-fresh eggs with the natural protective “bloom” intact last for 2 to 4 weeks at room temperature and up to 3 to 5 months in the refrigerator. If you wash the eggs, you strip away this barrier; washed eggs must be refrigerated and are safe to use for 2 to 3 months.

Because unwashed eggs can safely sit on the counter for a while, their exact lifespan depends on whether they have been cleaned and how they are stored:

  • Unwashed, Unrefrigerated (On the Counter): 2 to 4 weeks. Keep them in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
  • Unwashed, Refrigerated: 3 to 5 months. Store them with the pointy end facing down to keep the yolk centered.
  • Washed, Refrigerated: 2 to 3 months. Once you wash an egg (or bring a refrigerated egg out to room temperature), it must remain in the fridge.
  • Temperature fluctuations can cause the shell to “sweat,” letting bacteria slip inside.
